Scoped Assist

Room-aware context for Home Assistant's AI assistant, with search for devices elsewhere.

Give an assistant the context it needs

A home can have many devices, but a request usually begins in one room. Scoped Assist is a Home Assistant integration that supplies an AI assistant with context for the request’s location, rooms within earshot, and nearby entities.

It also provides a name index and a read-only search tool for finding devices elsewhere. The goal is to keep the default context relevant without losing the ability to reach beyond the current room.

Scope, search, and confirmation

The integration includes tool-layer confirmation for broad actions. Its README documents the limits of that protection, including paths that can bypass it. Installation requirements and supported Home Assistant versions are maintained in the repository.

Why I built it

This is a small example of a larger engineering interest: giving AI tools enough context to be useful while making their scope and behavior easier to reason about.
